I love, love, love these apple chips! I'm not going to lie you are going to need to make double what you think you'll eat because they are un-resistable. These apple chips are crunchy, tasty, and addicting ! Not only are they cheaper to make at home, they are super easy! You can make plain dried apples or add different toppings like cinnamon or sugar. Wash Apples, quarter and core. You can use an apple corer, which cores and quarters the apples. I have never had much luck with those, they don't seem to always take the whole core out. You can just take the stem out of the apples and slice the whole apples, leaving the core in but taking the seeds out. I like to take the core out though, so I do my apples this way :) Slice apples thinly. In my opinion the thinner the better. Not only do they dry quicker but it makes a crispy, crunchy apple chip. If you slice your apples thick they will turn out mushy, which can still be good but it's not what I'm going for here. Next lay out you're sliced apples on the dehydrator trays or on parchment lined baking trays for the oven. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (optional). I sprinkle only one side with cinnamon, but feel free to flip over and sprinkle the other too! Turn dehydrator to the fruit setting or to 135 degrees F. Our dehydrator takes about 10-14 hours to dry the apples chips to where I like them. This may differ depending on how hot your dehydrator runs. The general rule of thumb is 8-16 hours for crunchy apple chips.
For drying in the oven preheat oven to 200 degrees F. Cook apples for about 2.5 hours. If they aren't as crunchy as you like them leave them in there for longer! After they are nice and crunchy, turn the oven off and leave them in there as it cools. This helps to keep them crunchy other than letting them cool at room temperature. Pull them out and enjoy! You won't regret these delicious chips. Just letting you know, before you know it the whole bowl will be gone!
